OUR HOME PAGE

Established at the beginning of the year 2000, Parker & Myers Computers builds computers to customer specifications. However, the computer building business is not enough to pay the bills. As a result, we also repair computers, build web sites and offer various other IT services to fill the void.

During a service call, it was discovered that the navigation menu for this site didn't work on Internet Explorer 6. The next two machines to be brought in for service gave the same result. As a temporary fix, a couple of navigation buttons for those still using IE6 were added. These will only be available temporarily as the November second Tuesday Windows update pretty much requires IE6 to be replaced by IE7. Those who still use Windows 9X or Windows 2000 operating systems should consider an alternative browser such as Firefox, which is a standards based browser that renders the navigation menu with no problem

This site was originally designed for viewing in 800 X 600 resolution and used frame sets. The W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), the organization whose purpose is to establish standards for the Internet, has deprecated (made obsolete) the HTML frame set tags. Upgrading of this site began in October of 2007, during which time this site was republished without frame sets. Other changes will be occurring as time allows. Those, who have visited this site previously, will notice the absence of the graphic header we used in the past. While these fractal based graphics were really cool, they took a long time to download. Since this is primarily a customer support web site, and since many of our customers are stuck with dial up Internet connections, it was decided to eliminate these graphical page headers. This also provides the added benefit of visitors not having to scroll down to see the page contents.

Some web sites recommend that they be viewed with a certain browser with a certain resolution. This site was designed to be viewable with any web browser at almost any resolution. The exception being some of our "Help" or "How To" articles. Some of these have 500 pixel wide graphics, which means that at least the standard 800 X 600 resolution should be used. Even with this resolution some pages may have an odd look. Pages, such as this, that are basically text will be viewable at most resolutions. Try it. Resize your browser window and watch what happens. Every thing on the page should slide around until you have made the window as narrow as it will go. Your browser's horizontal scroll bar won't appear until you have reached the width of the widest graphic on any given page.

Although this site serves as advertising for us, it also serves as part of our product support. Among these pages are "How To's" that range in subject matter from beginner to advanced and written in a step by step style. Other pages contain vulnerability exploit alerts and other news items of interest to the computer user. There are also examples of computers we have built and a page devoted to those who wish to exchange web links.

You won't find banner ads or other such annoyances on every page. Most of these are located on the Purchase Portal page. This page was added to provide our site visitors with links to parts and software sources, not to mention possibly offsetting our web site expense. In appropriate locations are text only tracking links to these sources. Clicking one of these links may result in a downloaded script and will result in a cookie, however, there are no scripts or cookies downloaded from our site. The only information we collect is the raw data that web hosts provide to their clients, which we check for traffic volume, patterns and referrals. We also check the error logs, in case we forgot to upload a file. In the course of normal business, we do collect customer data but this is neither published nor connected to this site in any way. Please consider this as our "privacy statement".

When this site was first begun, we had plenty of ideas for support articles. Additional articles have been inspired by customer calls and from various net casts. We hope these have been helpful to one and all. The supply of ideas and inspiration from the other sources has begun to dwindle. If there is a subject you would like to see covered or just have a question you would like answered, please send your suggestion to us in an e-mail with "Info Request" in the subject line, to the address in the button graphic below. Also, if you happen to run across misspelled words, missing pictures or misinformation, please let us know. "You goofed" in the subject line or something along those lines will get our prompt attention. Thanks in advance.
